The recent race to electrification of passenger cars has changed the balance of noise sources inside the vehicle cabin, giving even higher importance to certain type of noise and vibration and definitevely to weight reduction.Battery capacity is linked to vehicle weight and therefore technology development in car industry is looking now more then ever to weight reduction.Phononic Vibes together with Adler Pelzer Group has introduced MetaDesign, next level of Acoustic Performance In Automotive Industry.With Metadesign, 30% of weight saving by keeping the same acoustic performances.
The metamaterial designed for this study consists of resonant elements distributed in a subwavelength scale [5] on an almost regular grid of 60×60 mm. This fine grid spacing enables to achieve a pronounced vibro-acoustic attenuation with the least influence by the boundary and installation conditions.
Metamaterials “go beyond” the raw material itself, performing thanks to shape and topology, being material agnostic. This enables the use of every material and also recycled material.
