Lighter cars, and quieter ones

With Mercedes-Benz and the tier-one supplier Adler Pelzer, we built Meta Design: insulation for the firewall between engine bay and cabin, about 28% lighter at the same acoustic performance. It is the first metamaterial in a series-production car.

MetaDesign, developed with Adler Pelzer Group, is in Mercedes-Benz series production: 30% lighter than the insulation it replaces, at the same acoustic performance. The Mercedes-Benz CTO presented it as the first metamaterial in a series-production car.
